A “Buhnentier (stage animal)” (Musik Theater) with "a voluptuous timbre and virtuosic coloratura" (Diapason), French soprano Julie Fuchs has established herself as one the most exciting opera singers of her generation; dazzling audiences in the world’s premiere opera houses and concert halls.

Winner of three Victoires de la Musique awards (including Opera Singer of the Year in 2021), second prize at Operalia in 2013, and Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres, her repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music with a focus on Mozart and Bel Canto heroines.

Julie’s 2024/25 season begins with a return to the Opéra national de Paris as Marie in La Fille du Régiment. She then makes return to the Opernhaus Zürich for Juliette in the revival of Roméo et Juliette and the Bayerische Staatsoper for Susanna in the revival of Le Nozze di Figaro as part of the theatre’s prestigious summer festival. She will also star in two baroque operas, as La Stronatrilla in L’Opera seria, marking her debut at Teatro alla Scala and as Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, marking her return to Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona. In concert, Julie looks forward to performing in recital with pianist Alphonse Cemin at Opernhaus Zürich and multiple European concerts throughout the season with Il Pomo d’oro.

Operatic highlights from past seasons include Marie at the Wiener Staatsoper,Norina in Don Pasquale, Fiorilla in Il Turco in Italia, Juliette, and the title role in L'incoronazione di Poppea at Opernhaus Zürich; la Comtesse Adèle in Le Comte Ory at l’Opéra Comique, Opéra Royal de Versailles and at the Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro; Fiorilla in Il turco in Italia at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare at Dutch National Opera; Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande, and Poppea at Gran Teatre del Liceu, Leïla in Les pêcheurs de perles at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées; Musetta in La bohème at the Bayerische Staatsoper; Norina in Don Pasquale, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Giuletta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi,  la Folie in Platée, Fatime/Emilie in Les Indes Galantes, Esther in Trompe-la-mort and Nannetta in Falstaff at Opéra national de Paris; Susanna at the Festival d’Aix en Provence, Gilda in Rigoletto, Giunia in Lucio Silla at Teatro Real Madrid,  the title role in Partenope at San Francisco Opera, Micaëla in Carmen at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, and Aspasia in Mitridate on tour with Les Musiciens du Louvre and Marc Minkowski. Her recent European solo recital tour in 2024, ‘Both Sides Now’ with Alphonse Cemin took the pair from London’s Wigmore Hall to Al Bustan Festival Lebanon via Paris, Athens, Barcelona, Strasbourg, Lille, Antwerp and Avignon.

An exclusive Sony recording artist, Julie released her first album for the label, Amadè, in November 2022. Julie has previously released two solo albums on Deutsche Grammophon’s label: Yes! and Mademoiselle and her wider discography includes a recording of early songs by Mahler and Debussy, a disc of Songs for Piano and Voice by Poulenc (Atma Classique), a live recording of Leïla in Les pêcheurs de perles (Pentatone), and a studio recording of Aspasia in Mitridate (Warner Classics).

Julie began her musical and theatrical training in Avignon and graduated with honours from the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. Marraine of the Paris Opera Competition, Julie actively supports the future of opera through this competition and with her initiative ‘Opera is Open’.
