Julie has joined the French TV show Prodiges, as a judge.

The show is a competition for young "prodigies" in classical music and dance, and Julie both judges and offers advice to the talented, young contestants. She joins cellist Gautier Capuçon and dancer Marie-Claude Pietragalla, who were both part of previous seasons.

In 2018, Julie launched the initiative #operaisopen, which seeks to show that opera is open to everyone regardless of income, education or age. While she normally speaks about this in relation to her performances in opera houses, she also considers this part of the initiative.

As she said on her social media channel:

"Maybe there are children out there watching this show that will hear opera for the first time in their lives, and it might change their minds about this magnificent art form. [Maybe they will think] 'Actually, opera is nothing to be afraid of!' Maybe this will also inspire them to learn more about classical music, or how to play an instrument or sing!"The show airs December 1st, and December 8th on France 2 at 21:05.

Julie makes her role debut as Aspasia in Mozart's Mitridate at the Staatsoper Berlin this November.

A new production by Satoshi Miyagi, Julie sings opposite Pene Pati in the title role, Elsa Dreisig as Sifare, Jakub Józef Orliński as Farnace, and Anna Prohaska as  Ismene. Les Musiciens du Louvre are in the pit, led by French conductor Marc Minkowski. This also marks the soprano's house debut at the theater.

* 23/11/20 update:
Although the Staatsoper Berlin performances of Mitridate have been cancelled, the opera will be recorded on Erato France with a similar cast - including Julie as Aspasia. In addition, a performance on November 28th has been added in Valencia at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, and the performance at the Liceu Barcelona has been moved to December 2nd.

Unfortunately, it was recently announced that the Opéra national de Paris will not open this autumn

and is therefore cancelling several productions including L’elisir d’amore and Siegfried, in which Ms. Fuchs was to make her role debut as Adina and Waldvogel respectively. Her upcoming engagements now include a concert at the Festival Saint Denis on the 17th of September with Angélique Kidjo and the Orchestre national d’Ile-de-France. She will also perform as part of this year’s Musiques en Fête, broadcast live on French TV on September 11th.

Her first role debut of the year will be as Aspasia in Mitridate at the Staatsoper Berlin, on the 13th of November.

Although the Opéra national de Paris remains closed to the public, Julie will be singing at Opéra Garnier as part the private concert series, "CONCERT SOLIDAIRE DES 13 & 14 JUILLET."

Intended as a thank you, the first evening is a private concert for sponsors and season ticket holders, while the second evening honors health care providers for their tireless efforts during the Covid-19 crisis. Philippe Jordan conducts the Orchestre et Choeurs de l’Opéra national de Paris, and Julie is joined by Stéphane Degout to perform a duet and aria from Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro.

The event can be watched at home via the @operadeparis' facebook and youtube live stream on the 13th and 14th of July at 19:30 Paris time.

While many opera houses remain closed due to the Covd-19 pandemic, Opernhaus Zürich is able to re-open and finish their 2020/21 with a series of recitals.

On July 9th, she joins the Orchestra La Scintilla, conducted by Riccardo Minasi, to perform a selection of baroque repertoire, including pieces by Handel, Vivaldi, and others.

Tickets to the concert sold out within hours of their release, but additional information about the concert can be found here.

She then returns to Paris to make yet two more role debuts as the Waldvogel in Siegfried - part of a new “Ring” production - then Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. On the concert stage, she performs in Berlin with the DSO, in a New Year's Eve Gala, and in Avignon, in a gala to celebrate the reopening of the Avignon Grand Opéra. Inspired by her initiative #operaisopen, in which she opens up the world of opera to her followers by posting behind-the-scenes moments and information that underlines the idea that opera is open to anyone, Julie will continue with this theme in an effort to keep opera open and alive online. Each week, she will delve into a different topic by posting about it and discussing it on her weekly instagram live show, #keepoperaopen which airs each Thursday evening at 21:30 on her instagram channel.

Julie was invited to take part in the France Musique social media initiative, "Jamais seule avec...", in which she performs Au bord de l'eau (Fauré/ Sully Prudhomme) with her frequent accompanist, Alphonse Cemin.

Recorded in their respective homes and then mixed to form a musical whole, the idea behind the project is to create a sense of comfort and unity during the Covid-19 outbreak. You can watch the video below, or click here to read the accompanying interview.

In addition to taking part in this initiative, Julie is launching her own social media series this week entitled #strawweek. As many of her followers have more time at home, the series teaches her followers something new! She explains ways to use a straw (something she frequently has used herself in behind-the-scenes videos) as a tool to improve their vocal technique or warm up without disturbing the neighbors. Hamburg State Opera and I have reached an agreement regarding the conditions of the termination of my guest contract for the role of Pamina in ‘Die Zauberflöte’ in May 2018.

One year on, I am happy to announce that following proceedings at the Stage Arbitration Court in Hamburg, I have received my full agreed fee as compensation for the short-term cancellation of my employment in the production. As some of you may remember, apart from my initial announcement, I have gone to great lengths not to talk about this matter publicly. Now that the agreement has been reached, I’m proud to have stood up for what is right, and I hope this incident and the ruling will help set a good example for other pregnant women and other opera houses.

Thank you for your support during this time.

Julie Fuchs makes her role debut as Fiorilla in Rossini's 'Il Turco in Italia,' at Opernhaus Zürich on April 28th, to rave reviews.

Bachtrack claimed her performance "sustained a degree of sheer brilliance," while the Tagesanzeiger called her coloratura "free" and "exuding with charm."

Since the release of her first Deutsche Grammophon album, Yes!, the French soprano Julie Fuchs has become a beloved star of the opera scene both in her native France and abroad.

As a followup to the success of her first album, which included Operetta and French song, Julie Fuchs returns with an album focused on opera during the 19th century.

Dedicated to Bel Canto with arias in three different languages (French, Italian and Spanish), this new album entitled Mademoiselle tells the story of the emancipation of a young women as the listener is guided through a careful collection of arias. Ms. Fuchs carefully chose both well-known and rare arias, some of which were recorded for the first time on this album. In addition to this theme of emancipation, the album is tied together dramatically in that the majority of the operatic characters are orphanes or young women who seek an alternate destiny than the one they have been predestined to accept.

Conductor Enrique Mazzola brings his artistry to the album as a specialist for this repertoire, as principal conductor of the l’Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France. Recorded in the orchestra’s new studio in Alfortville (just outside Paris), Mademoiselle inaugurated this new state-of-the art facility with a carefully designed acoustic ideal for classical recordings.

“I was very disappointed to receive – 4 days before the beginning of the rehearsals – the news that I would not be able to participate in the staatsoper Hamburg’s production of ‘die zauberflöte,’

…and make my role debut in the role of pamina. While I am very happy to be starting my family, I understand that my pregnancy does present the need for certain accommodations for both the director of a production and opera house. It is for this reason that I gave the staatsoper Hamburg the most advance warning possible (one month before the start of rehearsals), in order to give them ample time to solve any challenges. This decision does appear to be made because of staging, which would need to be altered in order for me to perform the role. I was convinced that we would be able to find a solution that didn’t damage the artistic integrity of this production, and I was assured up until this week that the staging could be altered to allow for my participation. I would have personally withdrawn had I found myself unable to perform to the appropriate standard. I am committed to honoring my commitments as a singer provided that it does not pose a risk to me or my baby. I was feeling both vocally and physically in top form and was very much looking forward to performing for the first time in Hamburg. I know that pregnant women around the world still face difficulty in the workplace, but I was very surprised to receive so many messages of women telling me about similar experiences. I hope that progress in every field of work can be made so that all artists, men and women, are respected in their work.”
